Klay Thompson reveals Draymond Green as his closest Warriors teammate ever
Klay Thompson opens up on his tightest bond from the Warriors dynasty, naming Draymond Green over Steph Curry — and hints at his future beyond Dallas.

Klay Thompson finally names his closest Warriors bond
Klay Thompson has never been shy about his love for the Bay Area, but on a recent livestream he got a little more specific about who mattered most during his run with the Golden State Warriors. Asked to pick the teammate he was closest with, Thompson didn't hesitate it was Draymond Green, not Stephen Curry, who topped the list.
"I'd say Draymond, just because we're the same age. We went through everything together. We were teammates for 13 seasons, and we would hang out a lot off the court and play a lot of dominos," Thompson said.
Steph Curry gets a different label
That's not to say Curry doesn't hold a special place in Thompson's story. The two formed the most lethal shooting duo the league has ever seen, but Klay framed their relationship a bit differently, describing Curry more as an older-brother figure than a running mate.
"Steph is more of a big brother role model to me because he's two years older than me. He's an incredible family man," Thompson added, drawing a clear line between the two relationships that defined his Warriors career.
13 seasons, four rings, and a legacy that speaks for itself
Thompson and Green spent 13 seasons side by side in Golden State, a bond that became the backbone of one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. Over that stretch, Thompson appeared in 793 games for the Warriors, averaging 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks per night — numbers that helped power the franchise to four NBA championships.
- 793 games played with the Warriors
- 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists per game for his Golden State career
- 13 seasons alongside Draymond Green
- Four NBA titles won together in the Bay Area
What this means going forward
Thompson is now with the Dallas Mavericks, a franchise heading into a reset under first-year head coach Jason Kidd's successor, Dusty May. With Dallas leaning into a rebuild, there's a real chance Klay could be on the move again before the season wraps up.
Thompson has already made his priorities clear: he wants to keep chasing a championship, and he hasn't ruled out a return to the Bay Area if the right opportunity comes along. For a shooter with his résumé and reputation, contenders will likely keep his name on speed dial no matter where he lands.
The bigger picture
Beyond the nostalgia, Thompson's comments are a reminder of just how much chemistry — not just talent — fueled Golden State's dynasty years. Draymond's fire and Klay's calm off-court camaraderie were as much a part of that success as Curry's shooting. As the NBA world watches where Klay ends up next, that bond with Draymond remains one of the defining relationships of an era.

Keep an eye on this
With Dallas's rebuild picking up steam, don't be surprised if Klay Thompson's name resurfaces in trade chatter before the deadline — and if a Bay Area reunion ever becomes more than just talk.
